What are Gross and Net salary in Vietnam?
Gross is total income before employee-side deductions; Net is the amount remaining after the deductions included in that payroll period.
What Gross salary includes
In common usage, Gross is the amount before compulsory insurance and personal income tax. Read the contract to see whether the quoted figure includes bonuses, allowances, support payments or benefits in kind.
Not every additional payment receives the same insurance and tax treatment. Its label alone is not decisive; eligibility conditions and supporting records matter.
What Net salary tells you
Net usually means take-home pay after the employee's insurance and personal income tax. It can still differ from the final bank transfer if payroll includes advances, internal deductions or reimbursements.
When comparing offers, examine Gross, the insurance base, allowances, bonuses, employer cost and how future legal changes will be handled.
Should an offer be Gross or Net?
A Gross agreement is usually more transparent about income components and the effect of tax or insurance changes. A Net agreement needs explicit assumptions to reduce disputes when policy or deduction records change.
Whichever form is used, request a payslip showing each deduction and reconcile it with the employment agreement.
